Half Day Adventure Tour
Madeira Half-Day Experience: History, Poncha, Exclusive Viewpoint & Cabo Girão Skywalk
Service Description
Begin in the traditional fishing village Camara de Lobos, once visited by Winston Churchill, where your guide shares the story of its fishermen, their heritage, and how the iconic Madeira drink poncha was first created by them. Walk through the village past Churchill’s statue and creative recycled-art monuments, including a beautiful monk seal sculpture. From the opposite side of the bay, enjoy a sweeping panoramic view before heading to Quinta de Santo António in Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, SafariCo’s private and exclusive viewpoint. Here, overlooking our own sugarcane fields, you’ll learn about local agriculture, traditional cultivation methods, and the perfect conditions for producing grapes and sugarcane in the region. Continue to a typical tasca Madeirense for a poncha tasting prepared the traditional way using fresh citrus and local sugarcane rum, your guide may even make one in front of you, offering a true hands-on cultural experience. The journey continues with short photo stops at hidden viewpoints known only by locals, revealing dramatic landscapes and authentic rural scenery. Next, visit Boca dos Namorados Viewpoint, one of the most impressive panoramas over Nun’s Valley. Here you’ll hear how this isolated community developed inside a volcanic crater and why this landscape is so unique. Then, embark on an off-road adventure through eucalyptus and chestnut forests, crossing the mountain through scenic natural trails rarely explored by visitors. The route leads to one of Madeira’s greatest highlights, Cabo Girão Skywalk, a glass platform suspended 589m above the Atlantic, where you can look straight down the cliff for an unforgettable adrenaline moment and stunning photographs. Finish the tour along beautiful coastal and mountain roads, returning to Funchal with wide panoramic scenery accompanying the journey, an immersive experience of Madeira’s culture, flavours, history and breathtaking landscapes, all in half day.
