Southwest Tour
Southwest Madeira Cultural and Geological Jeep Adventure
Service Description
Discover the authentic south-west coast of Madeira through a journey of dramatic cliffs, sunlit villages, off-road adventures and breathtaking viewpoints. We begin in Ponta do Sol, one of the warmest places on the island, where colourful houses meet the Atlantic in a calm and photogenic bay. Following the coastline, we pass through Madalena do Mar, surrounded by the island’s largest banana plantations and impressive cliffs, before continuing to Calheta, known for its golden sand beach, marina and sunny scenery. Our route leads to Paul do Mar, a picturesque fishing village nestled between sea and mountains, where waves break with power and the ocean rhythm sets the tone. A stop at Bar da Pedra offers a relaxed seaside moment perfect for photos and ocean views. We then climb to Miradouro do Massapez, a cliff-top viewpoint with sweeping panoramas over the rugged west coast. The journey continues along Fajã da Ovelha, crossing old stone tunnels and rock formations carved by time, before ascending the charming Rua das Eirinhas, lined with rural houses and terraced fields. Adventure grows as we enter a safe off-road trail towards Levada Nova, driving along cliffside paths with incredible views over green valleys and the ocean. We reach Miradouro da Achada do Mestre, often quiet and uncrowded, where panoramic landscapes stretch endlessly, and on clear days, you can even spot the lighthouse in the distance. At the Farol da Ponta do Pargo, located on the westernmost tip of Madeira, dramatic ocean cliffs meet the endless Atlantic horizon, creating a perfect spot for memorable photos. A delicious meal awaits at Restaurante Domínio, offering local flavours in a peaceful setting. We then cross the rural landscapes of Caminho Velho and follow Caminho da Cruz, a short off-road path with vibrant colours and open views, before arriving at Capela de Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte, a serene viewpoint merging heritage and nature. Another smooth and colourful off-road track leads us to Casa do Elias, from where we can admire both Ribeira da Janela and Rabaçal valleys in the distance. The tour concludes at Miradouro da Fonte do Bispo, surrounded by lush forest and fresh mountain air, before crossing the vast Paul da Serra, the island’s unique high plateau, where wide open horizons and soft rolling hills reveal a completely different side of Madeira.
