This half-day Madeira jeep tour connects Câmara de Lobos with rural viewpoints, forest tracks and Cabo Girão. Visit Safarico’s private viewpoint at Quinta de Santo António, taste traditionally prepared poncha and look over Nuns’ Valley from Boca dos Namorados. Wine tasting or a visit to Ilha das Aves can extend the outing from around four to six hours.

The route

Begin in the traditional fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, once visited by Winston Churchill, where your guide shares the story of its fishermen and heritage. Visit SafariCo's private viewpoint overlooking sugarcane fields, taste poncha prepared the traditional way, and discover hidden viewpoints known only to locals. The route continues through Boca dos Namorados Viewpoint over Nun's Valley, off-road forest trails, and finishes at the Cabo Girão Skywalk, a glass platform suspended 589m above the Atlantic.

For me, the highlight was the local bar he took us to: completely off the tourist path, filled with friendly regulars, his recipe for delicious poncha and tasty little side dishes. While the storm stopped us from fully enjoying the miradouro views, we were blessed with an incredibly rare snowfall at the peak! Who coulda imagined that?? Andre was honest and responsive throughout the drive, answering all our questions openly... while carefully maneuvering across tiny roads and dodging traffic. AND still attentive enough to spot his uncle, father and other family members dotted around the island along the way! He's a true son of the island, and what a welcome to the island! Do we visit Nuns’ Valley village?

The planned stop is Boca dos Namorados, a viewpoint overlooking Nuns’ Valley, also called Curral das Freiras. The published route does not include a visit down in the village itself.

Can I add wine tasting or the bird zoo?

Yes. Wine tasting at Henriques & Henriques or a visit to the exotic bird zoo is available as an optional extension of around two hours. Tell us which you prefer so we can confirm the timing, availability and extra cost.

Is hotel pickup in Funchal included?

Yes. Pickup in Funchal is included. Pickups outside Funchal have an additional fee.

When do I pay?

You pay in person on the day of the tour. Nothing is charged online when you send a request.

Can I request a German-speaking guide?

Yes, but German-speaking guides are limited and are not available on every departure. Request German guiding when you enquire and wait for our confirmation for your date.

Can you pick us up near Funchal cruise port?

Pickup is available beside the port, outside the terminal. Contact us before booking to confirm the meeting point and discuss whether the tour fits your time ashore. Share your arrival and required return times with your request.
