“Andre's tour was both insightful and charming... or maybe that's all the poncha talking? Haha. For me, the highlight was the local bar he took us to: completely off the tourist path, filled with friendly regulars, his recipe for delicious poncha and tasty little side dishes. While the storm stopped us from fully enjoying the miradouro views, we were blessed with an incredibly rare snowfall at the peak! Who coulda imagined that?? Andre was honest and responsive throughout the drive, answering all our questions openly... while carefully maneuvering across tiny roads and dodging traffic. AND still attentive enough to spot his uncle, father and other family members dotted around the island along the way! He's a true son of the island, and what a welcome to the island! Thank you again Andre! See you next time :)”

Poncha is Madeira's national drink, and making it properly is a craft. Our guides spent a day learning it at Poncha do Calvário, one of the island's most respected poncha houses.

Safarico is a family-run business, and one member of the family grows some of the biggest sugar canes on the island. That plantation is now part of a tour you can take.
