The route

Explore Madeira's authentic southwest coast from sunny Ponta do Sol through banana plantations and dramatic cliffs to the golden beach at Calheta. Discover the fishing village of Paul do Mar, climb to the cliff-top Miradouro do Massapez, and take an off-road trail along Levada Nova with incredible valley and ocean views.   • “Andre's tour was both insightful and charming... or maybe that's all the poncha talking? Haha. For me, the highlight was the local bar he took us to: completely off the tourist path, filled with friendly regulars, his recipe for delicious poncha and tasty little side dishes. While the storm stopped us from fully enjoying the miradouro views, we were blessed with an incredibly rare snowfall at the peak! Who coulda imagined that?? Andre was honest and responsive throughout the drive, answering all our questions openly... while carefully maneuvering across tiny roads and dodging traffic. AND still attentive enough to spot his uncle, father and other family members dotted around the island along the way! He's a true son of the island, and what a welcome to the island! How does this differ from the West Madeira jeep tour?

The Southwest route focuses on Ponta do Sol, Calheta, Paul do Mar and Ponta do Pargo. Choose the West route if your main priorities are Fanal Forest and the natural pools at Porto Moniz.

Does the Levada Nova section involve a long hike?

This itinerary includes an off-road jeep section along Levada Nova with valley and ocean views. It is a sightseeing jeep tour rather than a full Levada Nova walking route. Tell us about any walking requirements before booking.

Is hotel pickup in Funchal included?

Yes. Pickup in Funchal is included. Pickups outside Funchal have an additional fee.

When do I pay?

You pay in person on the day of the tour. Nothing is charged online when you send a request.

Can I request a German-speaking guide?
